Student opportunities and activities
At Springwood Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.
Our programs may include:

Our extra-curricular highlights
Primary School Sports Association (PSSA Sport)
Our school is part of the Primary School Sports Association - learn about the opportunities and events offered for our sporting children.
NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (NSWPSSA) provides opportunities for primary students to participate in competitive sport at the state level and above.
Springwood Public school is part of the Blue Mountains Primary School Sports Association (BMPSSA). Together with other local schools across the mountains, our students participate in various sporting events providing healthy competition and opportunities for primary students to participate in competitive sport all the way to state level and above.

Cheer, Dance and Gymastics
Students at Springwood Public School have access to our wonderful, Cheer, Dance and Gymnastics programs.
These activities are provided by trained staff or external providers and encourage participants of all ages and capabilities.
Through these activities, children learn the importance of confidence, independence, trust and commitment.
Our students are given a wide range of opportunities to perform both at school and offsite at multi school events.
Creative and performing arts
Our drama, music and art programs help students be creative and express themselves. They can join in concerts, art shows and drama activities.
Each year the 'Springwood Spectacular' is held, providing a showcase of our most talented singers, dancers and musicians. Participation is via an audition process and tickets are sold to parents and families for an evening of entertainment.
Springwood Public School has a very passionate Choir group. Students of all ages are encouraged to participate, building new friendships and a fun repertoire of songs to their skills. Choir group runs at lunch time - all welcome.
Once a term we offer a Yidaki (Didgeridoo) Lesson to our male students. Meeting before school, students participate in a hands-on lesson providing the basics of Didgeridoo playing. Non indigenous male students are also welcome to participate in this activity.
Trips and excursions
Our students enjoy getting out of the classroom to explore, learn and try new things. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world.
Each year students partake in whole grade incursions and excursions. Destinations or activities may include such places as
Sydney Zoo,
The Museum of Fire,
Warragamba Dam,
RSPCA Visits,
Stage 3 Overnight Camps
With each providing a direct link to current curriculum learning plans and outcomes.
Public speaking and The Student Newsletter
Students can develop their thinking, communication and teamwork skills through public speaking. They also have the chance to compete in local and state events.
An Annual Poetry competition is conducted for children in K-2. This opportunity provides students with the chance to perform to their peers in a safe, encouraging environment.
Students in Stage 3 are also invited to participate in the creation of the student newsletter - 'The Black Cockatoo'
Requiring, reporters, photographers, article writing, editors etc, students work collaboratively to produce a termly Student Newsletter for their peers.

Clubs
Students at Springwood Public school are encouraged to participate in many fun and varied extra opportunities.
Below are some of the Clubs that may run through-out the year:

- Run Club
Students have access to a fun activity based lunchtime area called The Depot - here facilitated play is run each lunchtime, providing a hands on learning environment for students to interact and play. A Learning and support officer supervises and guides students to encourage friendships and socialisation skills.
